Policies

Admittance to building

To gain admittance into the WLHC, individuals and all household members age 14 and up must scan in with their WLHC ID. JBU students, faculty and staff must use their JBU ID. ID cards are valid only for the person whose picture and name are on the card. Failure to comply with this policy will result in termination of membership.


Minor children (age 17 and under)

Children age 14-17 are eligible to get a WLHC ID card and use the facility without adult supervision. All children age of thirteen (13) and under must be accompanied by an adult WLHC  member (age 18 or over) when entering the building. Children age 10-13 are allowed to use the rec gyms and pool unsupervised as long as the adult member is in the building. Children age 9 and under must be supervised and remain with the adult at all times.


Guests

A member must be 18 or older in order to bring a guest. Guests must pay a $5.00 fee/person for anyone 6 years and older as they enter the facility. Children age 5 and under are free. Members must register their guests at the desk and guests should remain with the member at all times. Failure of members to properly register guests will result in termination of membership.


Behavioral expectations

All users of the WLHC are expected to:

  • Display appropriate behavior
  • Utilize appropriate language
  • Follow usage policies outlined on this page
  • Show respect and courtesy to one another and to WLHC staff

John Brown University is a tobacco-free and e-cigarette-free environment. Alcohol and drugs are not allowed on campus. Users of the WLHC will not be admitted into the complex while under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Failure to follow this guideline will result in the immediate forfeiture of membership with no refund.

Public music is not allowed unless for an organized WLHC personal training group or class. Personal music players with earpieces are allowed.

Running in the halls of the WLHC is prohibited.


Proper attire
  • Males must wear a shirt at all times in the WLHC (exception: while participating in a basketball pick-up game; shirt must be on when entering the hallway outside of the gym). Females must wear a full-shirt in the WLHC (Exception: Aerobics/Body Pump class – You must wear a shirt over your sports bra outside of the fitness classroom).
  • Pants and shorts with zippers and/or snaps (jeans included) are not allowed in the La-Z-Boy or Rapp Cardio/Weight Rooms.
  • Swimsuits must have a cover-up before leaving the locker room area.

Personal training & private lessons

Any member who uses the WLHC facility to independently provide personal training, private lessons, or other services for hire must get approval from the WLHC administration prior to offering these services. Background checks, at the member's expense, will be conducted and other restrictions may apply. Additionally, any independent services offered by members are in no way considered employment by John Brown University, and members are advised to carry their professional liability insurance and personal health insurance.


Locker information

Full-tier and half-tier lockers are available for rent in the Men’s and Women’s Community Locker Rooms for WLHC members. Locks are provided. All locks and lockers are the property of the WLHC. Day Use only lockers are also available.  

  • No personal locks can be used on lockers. Only exception is for lockers marked for Day Use Only.
  • Use of a locker by a person other than to whom it is assigned is forbidden. Misuse of a locker may lead to termination of locker privileges.
  • The WLHC’s membership office reserves the right to open a locker without the consent of the patron to whom the locker is registered in instances where locker procedures are being abused or in the case of an emergency situation.
  • Flammable materials, dangerous chemicals, explosives or weapons of any kind are strictly prohibited inside the lockers.
  • Perishable items and illegal or controlled substances such as drugs, alcohol, tobacco and vapers are also strictly prohibited inside the lockers.
  • Members are not permitted to affix anything to the interior or exterior of their lockers.
  • Members are responsible for reporting any damage or needed repairs to the WLHC membership desk. Members will assume the cost of any unreported damages.
  • All personal items must be stored completely within a locker. All items left outside of a locker, whether secured or not, will be removed and disposed of accordingly.
  • Lockers not renewed will be cleaned out and all contents turned over to the Campus Safety office.

Safety information

Please note the following WLHC safety procedures and the location of safety equipment and instructions:

  • Lightning - The pool will be closed immediately at the first incidence of thunder and/or lightning and will remain closed for 30 minutes after the last incident of thunder and/or lightning.
  • Tornado - In the event of a tornado, look for tornado safety area maps, which are located throughout the building.  Please contact a WLHC Administrative Staff member with any questions.
  • Fire - If the fire alarms are activated, everyone must exit the facility immediately and wait outside until an all-clear is given by Campus Safety or a WLHC Administrative Staff member.
  • Active Shooter - In the event of an active shooter situation,  1) attempt to escape, 2) lockdown if necessary, and 3) fight back if confronted.  These instructions are posted throughout the facility. Please notify a WLHC staff member on duty of any suspicious activity in the building.
  • First Aid - First aid supplies are located at the WLHC Front desk and AED's can be found in the following locations:
    • WLHC Front Desk
    • On the wall by the racquetball courts
