Ret. Cdr. Bill Brown and Dr. Maria Brown created the Bill and Maria Brown Endowed Scholarship to support students with a calling for pastoral or missionary work. Bill arrived at JBU with enough funds for one semester. He is very thankful JBU awarded him a partial track scholarship and a work scholarship. After graduating in 1964, Bill began his professional career working for the Pet Milk Company in Greenville, Tennessee before serving in the Navy for 21 years. Bill married Maria in 1978 and they have five children. Later, Bill and his oldest son Roger started a construction company in San Jose, California. Bill and his older brother Bob served on mission trips to Costa Rica to build a church and later took five trips to the jungles of Laos to introduce people to Christ while building schools and other construction projects. Maria holds a doctorate in Education, Organization and Leadership. She spent her career as a teacher and school administrator in California. Bill and Maria co-taught Sunday School for over 30 years and led home Bible studies for seniors. Maria also ran multiple church clubs and Vacation Bible Schools. Bill served on the Elder Board of two local churches for over 20 years. Bill and Maria moved to Wylie, Texas in 2019.
