Estudio de los elementos básicos de la música, incluyendo lectura musical (compás, intervalos, escalas, armaduras, tríadas y acordes de séptima), habilidades auditivas y conceptos y vocabulario teórico fundamentales.
Primera parte de una secuencia de tres cursos, refuerza conceptos básicos de teoría musical mediante percepción auditiva, lectura a primera vista y dictado rítmico, melódico y armónico, con énfasis en melodías y armonías diatónicas.

Lisa Auten is an active pianist, teacher, and music director who has performed with the University of Arkansas Music Department, the UArk Schola Cantorum; TheatreSquared; Arkansas Public Theatre; Bentonville High School Choral Department; Fayetteville High School Choral Department; the Symphony of Northwest Arkansas (SoNA), and the SoNA Singers. Throughout her career, she has performed in Los Angeles, Orlando, New York (Carnegie Hall: 2007 and 2023), Belgium, Russia, and Thailand. She has accompanied numerous performances at All-Region, All-State, Southwestern Division of American Choral Directors Association (SWACDA), and national American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) concerts. Additionally, she served as Collaborative Pianist Chairperson for the SWACDA Regional Convention in 2020, and again at the SWACDA conference in Denver in 2024.
She is an active member of both ACDA and the National Association for Music Education. Peer-reviewed academic journal Choral Journal June/July 2023 (Vol. 62, No. 9) writes, “Pianist Lisa Auten expertly handles this idiom, finding just the right weight and touch to make the keyboard seem windswept in accordance with the lyrics” in its review of Wander-Thirst: The Choral Music of Florence Price (Hill Records 2023:25:40) As a musical theatre director/conductor, she has led close to 60 musical productions, in high school, college, community, and Equity theatres.
Auten joined the faculty of John Brown University in 2022 as an Assistant Professor of Music. She brings her passion for music education, piano performance, and musical theatre to her students. She enjoys teaching Applied Piano, Orchestration, and the Keyboard Musicianship cycle, as well as music directing and conducting JBUMT’s Musical Theatre productions. Auten holds both a Master of Music in collaborative piano and a Bachelor of Science in music education from the University of Arkansas

Dr. Seung-Won Cho serves as Director of Choral Activities at John Brown University, where he conducts the Cathedral Choir, University Chorus, and Community Choir. He also teaches Conducting I & II, Choral Literature, the full Music Theory sequence (Foundations, Intermediate, and Advanced), and the History of Western Music.
He has held faculty appointments at the University of Texas at Austin, the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign, Virginia Tech, and Cave Spring High School in Virginia. His career further includes extensive service in church music ministry, with leadership roles at Christ Lutheran Church (Austin, TX), First Presbyterian Church (Urbana, IL), and Calvary Baptist Church (Roanoke, VA). Most recently, he served as Director of Music, Senior Organist and Artistic Director of a distinguished concert series at First Methodist Church (Lubbock, TX). A highlight of his ministry was overseeing the tonal design and installation of the world-class Letourneau Op. 135 pipe organ in Lubbock.
A Korean-American choral conductor and organist, Dr. Cho is active as an educator, symphonic chorus master, concert organist, and music minister, performing and teaching in both academic and professional settings. Beyond his responsibilities at JBU, he is frequently invited as a guest conductor, clinician, and lecturer for high school choirs and church choirs.
Dr. Cho is honored to continue the legacy of the JBU Cathedral Choir, an ensemble deeply rooted in the university’s tradition of faith, artistic excellence, and its motto: Christ Over All.
Dr. Cho received his Bachelor of Music in Conducting and Organ with Summa Cum Laude from Yonsei University, Seoul. He also earned his Master of Music in Choral Conducting at The University of Texas at Austin and graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with his Doctor of Musical Arts in Choral Conducting and Choral Literature.
He and his wife, Dr. Eun-Young Jung, are blessed with three children and are active members of Siloam Springs Bible Church. He also maintains professional affiliations with the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) and the American Guild of Organists (AGO).
