John Brown University offers select Community Education courses designed for personal development and professional training. These courses are open to the community and do not require enrollment in a full degree program and do not require the submission of any transcripts.
Community Education students apply only for the semester in which they plan to take a stand-alone course. Current options can be seen below.

EMT-Basic (OLM 4524)
Prepare for certification as an Emergency Medical Technician through JBU’s EMT-Basic course, taught by Branton Thompson, a certified paramedic and firefighter. Branton is an Arkansas Department of Health approved EMT Instructor. JBU's EMT Program is accredited by the Arkansas Department of Health Section of Emergency Medical Services.
Students must be 18 to apply per EMT requirements.
Schedule: Mondays & Wednesdays, 6:00–10:00 p.m.
Tuition: $105/credit hour (Community Education rate)
Course Fee: $2,055 (covers supplies, background checks, licensure application, and one National Registry testing fee)
What’s Included:
- Bandage scissors, pen lights, uniform shirts, CPR certification (if needed), masks, stethoscope
- Application and background check fees (Arkansas State & FBI)
- One National Registry testing fee
Additional Costs:
- Required textbook (~$385, includes online practice exams)
- Black pants for ride-alongs
New Life Ranch Development Course (BBL 2022)
Course offered through JBU to students in New Life Ranch’s year-long development program.
Students must be accepted and committed to New Life Ranch’s development program to apply.
Schedule: Wednesdays, 4-6 p.m.
Tuition: $105/credit hour (Community Education rate)
