Born and educated in California, Patty Kirk spent a decade studying and teaching  in Berlin, Beijing, and Hong Kong before returning to the United States to pursue an M.F.A. in Creative Writing. She now lives with her family on a farm in Westville, Oklahoma. Kirk is the author of two spiritual memoirs, Confessions of an Amateur Believer (Thomas Nelson 2007) and A Field Guide to God: A Seeker’s Manual (Guideposts Books 2010);a food memoir, Starting from Scratch: A Wandering Cook in Search of Home (Thomas Nelson 2008); a self-help book, Easy Burdens: Doing the Stress-Free, Guilt-Free Work of God (InterVarsity 2012); and a collection of essays, The Gospel of Christmas: Reflections for Advent (Intervarsity 2013). Her essays and other writings have been published in such journals as Quarterly West, Guideposts, Today’s Christian Woman,The International Journal of Children’s Spirituality, Alive Now, Sacred Journey, Poesia, The Commercial Appeal, The Threefold Advocate, and Ruminate and anthologized in The Spirit of Food: 34 Writers Feasting and Fasting toward God, edited by Leslie Leyland Fields.
