Watch Matt Musgrave talk about his internship with Del Monte foods

Video Categories: Business Administration

I’m a business administration major, and a double minor in music and worship ministries. I started taking business classes and loved it. I just loved what I was learning and I’m still excited about it and in doing this internship kind of further confirms, like, and a career in business is not at all what I expected it would be, and it’s always different, and it’s always changing, and you’re always adapting to the changing environment. I found out about the internship through JBU. I got an email from Julia Siemens who’s kind of the… receptionist but she also teaches the internship class. She sent an email out that said Delmonte’s looking for an intern, if you want to go apply, you can submit your resume. Stuff you learn in the classroom is—you read textbooks, you work on group projects, and it’s like, ok, but I don’t really know what that means. Putting that and seeing how that’s applicable every… day here has been really cool. I’ve learned a lot of how to work in a group on a project, how to have conflict on projects, and attack the idea and not attack the person, and realizing that those are different things. We go around to each different functional area and learn as much as we can about what they do, and that… was really valuable to see how all the different parts of the team play together. It’s pass/fail. It’s not, well, I got a ninety-two, you know, I’m feeling good with a ninety-two, I got an A minus, I got my GPA. A ninety-two percent in this environment is well, you didn’t accomplish what we wanted you to accomplish. That’s kind of intimidating, but at the same time it’s a really clear-cut definition of what’s good and what’s not, what’s passing and what’s not. And you know what’s expected of you. That I think is the invaluable part of the internship is seeing how it actually works and actually plays out.
