From the beautiful outdoors to great job opportunities with Fortune 500 companies, Northwest Arkansas offers a wide range of career choices, entertainment, food, recreation and communities.
The best of city and small-town living
The Walton Arts Center in Fayetteville hosts top artists in concert and touring Broadway productions. The Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art houses some of the most valuable and well-known paintings by American artists, from Norman Rockwell’s Rosie the Riveter to Charles Willson Peale’s George Washington. JBU also shares the region with the University of Arkansas, the flagship of the Arkansas public university system, providing additional educational resources to our students. Northwest Arkansas has two major malls, a minor league baseball team and Devil’s Den State Park, which offers camping, rock climbing, fishing, caves, trails and hiking in the scenic Ozark Mountains.
An economic powerhouse
Northwest Arkansas is home to Fortune 1 company Walmart. Besides having the retail giant in JBU’s back yard, over 1500 of Walmart’s suppliers, from Disney to Procter and Gamble, have operations in Northwest Arkansas. But Walmart isn’t the only economic engine in Northwest Arkansas, the world’s number one protein provider, Tyson Foods, is based in Springdale. Lowell is the home base for J.B Hunt, one of the largest trucking companies in America. In Siloam Springs, home of JBU’s main campus, you’ll find La-Z-Boy, Gates Rubber, Cobb-Vantress (an international poultry leader), Simmons Foods (poultry products) and Sager Creek Vegetable Company, formerly Allen Canning Company, producers of vegetable products like Veg-All and Pop-Eye’s Spinach. Beyond retail, transportation, manufacturing and food processing industries, Northwest Arkansas also enjoys a large farming community, a significant part of the economy.
Connected to the world
Connected by interstates, turnpikes and airports, traveling to Northwest Arkansas can be done with ease. Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport (XNA) is only 22 miles from campus. Seven major carriers service XNA with non-stop flights to 15 cities. If you’d rather drive, Tulsa, Okla., is just over an hour away, Kansas City is four hours away, Dallas is five hours away and Memphis is less than six hours away.
