The Cornerstone of JBU Campus

During Homecoming Weekend JBU held a special rededication service following the renovation of the Cathedral of the Ozarks.

Project Details

The Cathedral of the Ozarks is the heart of our JBU campus and one of the most iconic buildings in the northwest Arkansas region.

However, as with any aging facility, renovations must be strategically completed in order to preserve the building’s structure and beauty and to ensure its longevity for future generations. The interior of the Cathedral sanctuary has not been improved since 1991.

Total Cost: $1.5 million
Project Dates: May 2024 - August 2024

The renovation project will include:

  • Restore the handcrafted pews made in JBU's campus furniture shop in the 1950s
  • Rejuvenate the interior woodwork on the walls.
  • Replace stained and damaged ceiling tiles
  • Remove the permanent risers on the stage in order to improve the functionality of the space
  • Install a new soundboard
  • Update the Cathedral lobby including the installation of digital displays to showcase masterpieces of art that correlate with chapel messages
