Down Early, Golden Eagles Post Furious 3-1 Comeback Over Mid-America Christian

SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. (November 2, 2012) - Despite dropping the first set, John Brown rallied in a big way, winning the next three sets to capture a 3-1 (24-26, 25-7, 25-17, 25-17) victory over Mid-America Christian (Okla.) tonight at Bill George Arena.

With the win, the Golden Eagles collect its 21st of the season, pushing its overall record to 21-14 and 3-8 in Sooner Athletic Conference play.

JBU had a great opportunity to sweep the match but handed away a six-point lead in the first set to the Lady Evangels who, after knotting the score at 24, scored the final two points and stole the set.

The Golden Eagles would learn from their mistakes, closing out the second set 25-7 after building an 18-point advantage. John Brown posted a match-high .476 hitting percentage in game two.

A pair of Audrey Dearien aces in set three allowed John Brown to mount a 12-5 lead early in the third set before back-to-back kills from Melissa Bakke pushed the advantage to nine (18-9). For the second-straight set, John Brown held a lead of 18 points en route to the set win.

In the final set, both teams traded points as the Golden Eagles held the slight advantage (16-14). John Brown was able to pull away when MACU committed two errors bumping the Lady Evangel deficit to four. Although the match ended on four-straight errors, JBU took advantage of the last, taking the final set, 25-17.

Dearien paced all players with 17 kills while middle blocker Erin McIlroy notched 14 to accompany her seven digs. Three players posted double-digit digs as Meghan Kenney (17), Becca Young (16) and Staci Williamson (10) led the Golden Eagle defensive effort.

John Brown out-blocked Mid-America Christian (8-6), led by Libby Blasingame's five block assists, and posted an overall .288 attack percentage in the victory.

The Golden Eagles will now face Oklahoma City on Saturday (Nov. 3), hoping to claim a share of fourth place in the Sooner Athletic Conference standings on the final day of regular season games. First serve is slated for 5:00 p.m.
