SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. (October 27, 2012) - Goalkeeper Pablo Garcia stopped a penalty kick in the 73rd minute while midfielder Andre Sandiford-Williams scored with minutes remaining as the Golden Eagles toppled Oklahoma City, 1-0, in its regular season finale at Alumni Field today.

The victory cements John Brown's overall record at 7-6-2 with a 3-4-1 mark in Sooner Athletic Conference play. With the loss, the Stars fell behind JBU with an overall 8-6-3 record and 3-5-0 in SAC action.

The shots were fairly even in the first half as John Brown held the slight advantage (7-5). Each netminder made two saves in the opening frame.

The Golden Eagles played very well in the first half, possessing the majority of ball control, but was unable to send a shot past OCU keeper Joe Schulberg.

The visiting Stars began to press back in the second half and came close to scoring the opening goal before a tackle from Sandiford-Williams resulted in a penalty kick for Oklahoma City.

Garcia, however, was up to the task as the junior keeper prevented the Stars from scoring first by shutting the door on Kieran McLachlan, the Stars' third-leading scorer.

Just as the game seemed as if it were destined for extra time, Sandiford-Williams redeemed himself by netting a goal in the 87th minute, sending the bench and crowd into a frenzy.

The Golden Eagle defense held strong for the final few minutes, keeping OCU at bay and not allowing a shot toward Garcia.

Garcia finished the match with five saves in the clean sheet effort. John Brown held a 5-1 corner kick advantage while the Stars outshot the host squad by a slim 14-13 margin.

During the pregame ceremonies, the men's soccer program honored its five seniors: Noah Archibald, Josh Baldwin, David Castagne, Cameron Cole and Chris Soenksen. The seniors, over the last four years, have amassed a 35-28-6 regular season record including a trip to the 2010 Sooner Athletic Conference tournament semifinals.

John Brown will now await the result of a match between Wayland Baptist (Texas) and Lubbock Christian (Texas) as the Pioneers and Chaparrals will battle on Tuesday (Oct. 30).

If LCU is able to win or secure a draw, the Golden Eagles will hit the road and face the Pioneers, who have received votes in the latest NAIA national poll, in Plainview, Texas next Saturday (Nov. 3). If the Chaparrals lose outright, it will place them in a tie with JBU.

John Brown holds the tiebreaker with Lubbock Christian as the Golden Eagles handed LCU an impressive 5-0 defeat in Lubbock on Oct. 13. This would result in JBU moving up one slot, from sixth to fifth, and find Mid-America Christian waiting in the fold for a rematch in Oklahoma City. On Oct. 24, John Brown and the Evangels played to a 1-1 double-overtime draw. The game would also take place on Saturday (Nov. 3).
