JBU Women's Soccer Upended in Conference Soccer Tournament

Siloam Springs, Ark. (November 1, 2003) - Number 4 seed, John Brown University women, was beaten 3-1 by number 5 seed University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma on Saturday afternoon in the first round of the Sooner Athletic Conference women’s soccer tournament. During regular season play, the Golden Eagles had defeated USAO 1-0.


Both teams scored early in the game with USAO opening a 1-0 lead on an unassisted shot by Summer Holman with 39:15 to go in the first half. JBU came back at the 31:17 mark of the first period to tie the score on an open shot by senior Stephanie St. Clair. That ended the first half scoring, but USAO came out quickly again with a score 8 minutes into the second half to take the lead at 2-1 on another unassisted shot by Summer Holman. The Drovers scored their final goal with 6 minutes remaining in the game when Stephanie Tyree kicked in an unassisted shot.


Freshman goalkeeper Amy Menegaz recorded 12 saves in the losing effort.


The loss will end JBU’s season with a record of 11-6.
