Author ties historic Christian practices to contemporary political engagement
SILOAM SPRINGS, Arkansas (Sept. 28, 2020) – John Brown University and the Center for Faith and Flourishing (CFF) announce the fourth annual Reimagining Faith & Public Life, featuring Kaitlyn Schiess, author of “The Liturgy of Politics,” on Tuesday, Sept. 29, at 7 p.m. This year’s event is titled “Seeing Politics Beyond 2020.” The event will be available to the public via livestream.
In her book, Schiess, a current student at Dallas Theological Seminary, remembers her upbringing in the church in a time of increasing political polarization as a transformative experience in shaping her understanding of linkages between faith and politics. Schiess offers ways for a new generation of Christians to approach politics through the lens of formative spiritual practices.
“In the midst of a contentious election year, it is helpful for all of us to take a step back and reflect on what is actually motivating and forming our political attitudes and behavior,” said Dr. Daniel Bennett, assistant director of the Center for Faith and Flourishing. “Given her thoughtful writing on this very topic, Schiess is an ideal speaker for such a time as this.”

Reimagining Faith in Public Life was created to facilitate dialogue about the intersection of faith and political and cultural engagement. Past speakers include bestselling author Jemar Tisby, author and attorney David French, author and political strategist Michael Wear, and author Rod Dreher. This year’s event is sponsored by the Center for Faith and Flourishing, with additional support from the Arkansas Humanities Council and the American Enterprise Institute’s Initiative on Faith and Public Life.
