Bejarano's timely goal secures Player of the Week honors

OKLHOMA CITY, Okla. -- After notching the game-tying goal in John Brown University's matchup with No. 6 Oklahoma Wesleyan on Wednesday (Sept. 14), sophomore Giovani Bejarano has been named the Sooner Athletic Defensive Player of the Week, the conference offices announced on Monday (Sept. 19) afternoon.

Bejarano earned his first-career weekly accolades after netting the game-tying goal past OKWU keeper Luka Stojanvoic in the 76th minute of play. Sophomore Ryan Williams' free kick from the right flank landed in the box, which allowed Bejarano to tip the ball past Stojanvoic before slotting a shot into the empty net to tie the game at one apiece.

His first-career goal allowed Bejarano and the Golden Eagles (4-1-1) to claim a tie against their arch-rivals and maintain a perfect 17-0-4 record at Alumni Field all-time against OKWU.

Bejarano was also a part of a back line that limited the visiting Eagles to just one shot on goal.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Friday (Sept. 23) at Alumni Field to host Bethel (Tenn.) at 7 p.m.
