Bound for Glory Coming to JBU Art Gallery

SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. (September 29, 2014) - A collection of expressive calligraphy by world-renowned artist Timothy Botts, will be on display in the John Brown University Windgate Visual Arts West Gallery. The show will open with a reception on Thursday evening, Oct. 2 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and will feature a gallery talk by the artist at 6:30 p.m. The exhibit entitled Bound for Glory will be on display until Oct. 31.

“I have been inspired by traditional African art and writing systems as well as by the best of urban graffiti. I hope that my use of color and movement in these pieces helps you feel both the pathos and joy of the music,” said Botts.

Traditional American quilts and the quilts of Gee’s Bend in Alabama influence Botts’ artwork.

“John Brown University is very honored to have an artist of such international stature exhibit his work here and come to campus to share with our community,” said Charles Peer, Gallery Director. “Botts’ work is bold, expressive and very thought provoking.”

The gallery is open Monday through Friday 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. and Sunday 2 p.m.-4 p.m. or by special arrangement. The reception and the exhibit are free and open to the public. For further information you may contact the JBU Department of Visual Arts at 479-238-8561.
