Brady, Moyer Collect First Conference Honors

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. -- Seniors Griffin Brady and Luke Moyer were honored for their play throughout the 2015-16 season when the Sooner Athletic Conference revealed its annual All-Conference listings, the conference office announced on Tuesday (March 1) morning.

For the first time in his career, Brady landed on the third team after averaging 14.7 points and 7.7 rebounds this season, finishing third and first on the team, respectively. In conference play, Brady notched 12.9 points and finished tied for sixth in the league with 7.0 boards per night. Also, his eight double-doubles were good enough for eighth-most in the conference.

Brady set a career high on Nov. 17 when he scored 41 points in an overtime loss at Ozarks (Mo.). He finished 16-of-21 and pulled down 15 rebounds in the 88-87 setback. Bradys 16 field goals made that game set a conference single-game high.

Bradys 178 defensive rebounds this season stands at fourth-most in single-season program history.

“I am excited to see Griffin recognized by the other coaches for this honor,” said head coach Jason Beschta. “Griffin had a good junior season with us, and then he stepped up his game dramatically for his senior year. His versatility as a forward made him a difficult matchup as he can be effective posting up around the basket, driving from the perimeter or shooting the three.

“He did all of this with great efficiency shooting, solid percentages from both two and three, and he was one of the top rebounders in the league on top of all of that! He is ultra-competitive, extremely determined, a tireless worker and has been a joy to coach and get to know. Griffin is well deserving of receiving this honor.”

Moyer, who was named to the honorable mention team, finished the regular season second on the team with 15.1 points per game, but made most of his buckets from behind the arc. Finishing 89-of-219 (39.3 percent) from behind the arc, Moyer is currently No. 8 in the nation in triples per game (3.1) and No. 9 in total three-pointers. His 89 triples are tied for sixth-all time in single-season program history.

In conference play, Moyer drained 3.06 treys per game, good enough for third-most in the SAC, and posted a 36.8 percent shooting effort from downtown in league action. Moyer eclipsed the 20-point mark five times in league play and scored a career-high 29 points against Wayland Baptist (Texas) on Dec. 3, hitting four triples on an 11-of-21 effort from the field.

“Its great to have Luke recognized by the coaches as an impact player in this league,” Beschta admitted. “He is well-deserving of the honor, as he has led us in scoring and/or assists in so many games this season. He has such a tremendous work ethic and desire to be his best, and he plays with a passion and drive that has helped him reach the high level of ball that he has been playing this season.

“Luke's ability to shoot from deep, to run the show at the point and to make big plays has helped our team win some big games, including his game-winning triple on senior night. I am thankful for the opportunity to coach Luke this year and am excited for him to receive this honor.”

The Golden Eagles are the No. 8 seed for the upcoming Sooner Athletic Tournament after tying for eighth place with a 5-13 record. The Golden Eagles will face No. 9 St. Gregorys (Okla.) on Wednesday (March 2) in the first round at the Shaffer Center in Waxahachie, Texas. Tip is set for 5 p.m.
