Children’s Book Illustrations Featured in Two Art Exhibits at JBU
SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. (April 1, 2013) - The John Brown University Department of Visual Arts is excited to host two exhibits celebrating the work by and for children. Artwork representing the very best in new Children’s Books Illustrations will be on display in the exhibit titled “Original Art: Celebrating the Fine Art of Children’s Book Illustration” in the JBU Art Gallery located in the Windgate Visual Arts East building. At the same time an exhibit featuring the collaborative work of second grade students from Siloam Springs and JBU illustration students will be displayed the Windgate Visual Arts West building. Both shows will open with a reception on Tuesday evening, April 2 from 6:00-7:30 p.m.
The “Original Art: Celebrating the Fine Art of Children’s Book Illustration” exhibit is an extraordinary show that is the culmination of an annual competition sponsored by the Society of Illustrators and showcases the artwork from the year’s best children’s books published in the U.S. “After the competition concludes a collection of award-winners is allowed to travel to various venues throughout the country,” said Charles Peer, gallery director. The second exhibit features a collaboration between Allen Elementary students and JBU students.
