Cold shooting sends men’s basketball to 71-49 setback

SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. -- Senior Ricky Roberts scored a team-high 16 points but Benedictine (Kan.) shot over 50 percent from the floor and limited the Golden Eagles to just 35.7 percent in the Ravens' 71-49 win over JBU inside Bill George Arena on Tuesday (Nov. 8) evening.

Roberts hit 4-of-13 from the floor and added a pair of assists, but the Golden Eagles (1-2) were handcuffed by 17 turnovers and a 15-of-42 mark from the floor.

Senior Zach English added nine points and five rebounds while sophomore Benjamin Smith added six points.

John Brown finished the first half out-shooting Benedictine from the floor and faced just a one-point deficit, 29-28, but the Ravens shot 68.2 percent from the floor in the second half, hitting 15-of-22 attempts from the floor.

Andre Yates led all scorers for Benedictine (2-0) with 24 points and five boards, while hitting 4-of-6 from behind the arc. Connor Fleming hit scored an efficient 4-of-6 attempts from the field, finishing with 14 points and three assists as Jake Schannuth and Christian Hatterle added eight points for Benedictine in the win.

The Ravens held decisive margins in both bench scoring (37-14) and points in the paint (43-32).

The Golden Eagles return to action on Thursday (Nov. 10) when John Brown welcomes Barclay (Kan.) to Bill George Arena for a 7 p.m. tip.
