Dearien Named Conference Player of the Week

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (October 6, 2014) -- Junior outside hitter Audrey Dearien has been named the Sooner Athletic Conference’s Player of the Week for the week ending on Oct. 5, the conference offices announced this afternoon.

The Player of the Week honors collected by Dearien mark the second time in her career earning the recognition.

Additional honors went to Wayland Baptist's (Texas) Chelsey Driskill as Hitter of the Week, Oklahoma Baptist's Ezgi Guney as Setter of the Week and Texas Wesleyan's Abigail Zipoy as Libero of the Week.

Dearien, a native of Frisco, Texas, averaged 4.14 kills over seven games as the Golden Eagles (13-6, 4-2 SAC) split matches against St. Gregory's (Okla.) and Oklahoma Baptist. She tallied 29 kills in 75 attacks, making only 11 errors, for an attack percentage of .240. Dearien collected 11 digs and 12 kills, a double-double, in JBU's 3-0 sweep of St. Gregory's.

Dearien ranks nationally in three separate categories. She is currently No. 12 in the nation in total service aces (39), No. 17 in aces per set (.580) and No. 47 in kills per set (3.280).

Driskill, a junior middle hitter from Lubbock, Texas, averaged 3.33 kills in six-game span in WBU's matches against NCAA II West Texas A&M and Oklahoma City. Driskill had 20 kills and three errors on 43 attacks for a hitting percentage .395 for the week.

Guney, a senior from Istanbul, Turkey, averaged 11.6 assists in a five-game span for OBU that included wins over Texas Wesleyan and John Brown (Ark.). Guney also reached double figures in digs both games (22).

Zipoy, a junior outside hitter from Austin, Texas, averaged 5.00 digs in six games in TWU's matches against Oklahoma Baptist and Southwestern Christian. Her best game came against OBU when he had 21 digs.
