Duncan's Three-Goal Weekend Lands POTW Honors

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (September 9, 2013) -- John Brown’s Ryan Duncan and Oklahoma City’s Joe Shulberg have been named the Sooner Athletic Conference men’s soccer Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week for Sept. 2-8, conference officials announced today.

Duncan, a junior forward from Oldmeldrum, Scotland, recorded three goals as John Brown finished 1-1-0 in the past week. The striker tallied the Golden Eagles' long goal in a 2-1 defeat to Concordia (Neb.) at Alumni Field before his two-goal outburst helped clinch JBU's 3-2 come-from-behind win over Georgia Gwinnett in day two of the Quality Inn Fall Classic.

"Ryan had a great weekend in our tournament," said head coach Scott Marksberry. "His goal against Concordia was a product of great pressure by Ryan, Cory (Cole) and Zeke (Zumbro). His goals on Saturday displayed Ryan's ability to identify and attack seams in the defense.

"He always puts himself in a position to score goals with his movement away from the ball. Last weekend was no different, except that we found him with the ball and he finished his chances."

Duncan is now tied for second on the team in points (six) and also tied for most goals with junior midfielder Martin Gonzalez (three).

Shulberg, a senior goalkeeper from Huntingdon, England, won for the second week in a row. He collected 10 saves on the week, including six in a 3-1 loss to Georgia Gwinnett and four in a 1-0 shutout of Concordia (Neb.).
