Galliguez, Rakestraw Return to Capital One Academic All-District List

SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. (February 4, 2013) - Senior guards Abel Galliguez and Coleson Rakestraw were once again selected to the 2012-13 edition of the Capital One Academic All-District College Division Team, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), representing the Collegiate Division of District 4.

Both Galliguez and Rakestraw earned 2011-12 All-District honors as Rakestraw later became John Brown's first-ever first-team Academic All-American in any sport. The duo made a list of six players selected by the District 4 Sports Information Directors. District 4 is comprised of NAIA and two-year institutions from Arkansas, Kentucky, Louisiana and Tennessee. Both players are now eligible for Academic-All American status, set to be released by CoSIDA on Monday, Feb. 18.

Galliguez, a graduate student from Sugarland, Texas, finishing his Masters of Business Administration, currently leads the team with 101 assists through 24 games, an average of 1.63 points per game, and paces the Golden Eagles with 27 steals. Galliguez notched a season-high 18 points in an 84-70 loss at Wayland Baptist (Texas) on Jan. 26, 2013, hitting four triples in the losing effort. He currently ranks No. 11 in the nation in assists-to-turnover ratio (2.59).

Rakestraw, a senior from Siloam Springs, Ark., majors in Engineering and has been selected to the All-District list in each of his three years of eligibility. Rakestraw currently leads the high-powered Golden Eagle offense (75.88 points per game), averaging 11.6 points a night, and has emerged as the leading three-point threat for John Brown. Rakestraw's 42.5 percent shooting average from beyond the arc lands him at No. 13 in the nation while his 56 total triples places him at No. 23.

The Golden Eagles are currently 20-4 and have reached the twenty-win plateau quicker than any other men's basketball squad in program history. John Brown is currently two weeks removed from its highest national ranking in program history, landing the No. 4 spot in the fifth edition of the Coaches' Top-25 Poll, released on Jan. 22, 2013.
