GameDay: Volleyball Travels to Texas for Trimatch

SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. (August 26, 2014) -- After posting an impressive 3-1 record at the season-opening Oklahoma Baptist Invitational, John Brown (3-1) will face a pair of Red River Athletic Conference opponents before taking an extended break.

The Golden Eagles worked its way to a perfect 2-0 start last Friday (Aug. 22) with sweeps over St. Thomas (Texas) and Tabor (Kan.). After a bit of trouble at the start of day two against Hastings (Iowa), JBU finished the tournament with an impressive performance against Wiley (Texas).

This afternoon, John Brown will again face Wiley, this time on its home court in Marshall, Texas. However, before the rematch at 5 p.m., the Golden Eagles will take on Jarvis Christian (Texas) at 3 p.m.

The match will serve as the season-opener for the Bulldogs as JBU already has a quartet of games in the book. Last season, Jarvis Christian finished a meager 3-24 while posting a 1-12 mark in RRAC play.

The second tilt features teams that met less than 72 hours ago, when JBU used a career-high 18 kills from junior Melissa Bakke and 17 terminations from All-Tournament honoree Audrey Dearien to take a 3-1 (25-21, 25-19, 24-26, 25-10) match from the Wildcats.

Bakke led all players with a career-high 18 kills in the victory while also contributing 13 digs. Dearien was just behind her, landing 17 terminations, four service aces and 23 digs. Senior Becca Young turned in an outstanding defensive effort with a match-high 24 digs and while Daniels passed around a game-high 18 assists.

Hunnicutt also chipped in with 11 kills, notching a career-high and her first collegiate outing in double-digit terminations.
