Giving Voice: A Festival of Writing and the Arts Coming to JBU
SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. (September 18, 2014) - The annual Giving Voice: A Festival of Writing and the Arts will be hosted at John Brown University on Sept. 25-26, on the Siloam Springs campus. Supported in part by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, the festival includes workshops and public performances by distinguished writers and musicians.
On Thursday, Sept. 25 the public is invited to the convocation at 10:30 a.m. in the Cathedral of the Ozarks, readings at 6:00 p.m. in the Simmons Great Hall and a free concert with performer/songwriter Josh Harmony in the Cathedral at 8:00 p.m. On Sept. 26, area high school students will participate in a variety of workshops on writing for a variety of genres, drama, plays and many art forms.
Keynote speaker Brett Foster, author of The Garbage Eater: Poems, teaches Renaissance literature and creative writing at Wheaton College. Other guest writers include Jessie van Eerden, author of Glorybound and director of the MFA writing program of WV Wesleyan College, and Shannon Polson, author of North of Hope: A Daughter’s Arctic Journey.
