Golden Eagles Capture 11th Place at Mustang Invitational
CONWAY, Ark. (March 26, 2013) - For the second consecutive tournament, freshman Sam Greenleaf paced the Golden Eagles men's golf squad, this time by carding a two-day total of 165 (81-84), pacing John Brown to an 11th place finish at the Central Baptist (Ark.) Mustang Invitational.
Greenleaf finished the first round tied for 15th after a nine-over 81 and dropped slightly on the second day after shooting an 84, placing the freshman tied for No. 20 at the conclusion of the tournament. Senior Nathan Sudheimer turned in a team-best, single-round score of 79 on day two, finishing tied for 24 at 166.
Freshman Conner Reed, after shooting a 99 on day one, marked the best turnaround of any Golden Eagle by bettering his stroke by 20 on day two and finished with a 178 (99-79), good enough for a tie at 55th place.
Freshman Max Gordon, filling in for the injured Stephen Allen, shot a consistent 182 (92-90) while sophomore Tommy Wright wrapped up JBU's five-man score with a 196 (90-106).
The Golden Eagles had a stranglehold on the No. 11 spot through both days and finished with a team total of 682 (350-332) and improved in the second round of play by 18 total strokes, besting Northwestern Oklahoma State by one stroke overall.
John Brown will return to the course on April 9-10 when it travels to Oklahoma City to play in the Southwestern Christian (Okla.) Spring Tournament, hosted at the Hefner Golf Course.
