Golden Eagles make quick work of Barclay, 100-54

SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. -- Six players scored in double figures and the John Brown University men's basketball team shot over 50 percent from the field to run away with a 100-54 win over Barclay (Kan.) on Thursday (Nov. 10) evening inside Bill George Arena.

The win breaks the Golden Eagles' short two-game slide, improving the squad to 2-2 overall and 2-1 in Siloam Springs.

Senior Matthew Ledford poured in a season-high 16 points on 4-of-9 shooting from behind the arc while senior Ricky Roberts added 13 points, seven rebounds and three assists in the lopsided win. Senior Zach English and sophomore Marquis Waller also added 13 points apiece while sophomores Jake Caudle and Benjamin Smith contributed 11 and 10 points, respectively. Benjamin also pulled down seven boards, helping JBU to a 56-24 advantage on the glass.

The hosts piled up the points in the first half, shooting 53.4 percent from the floor. Through the first 5:08 of the contest, the Bears (1-4) held a surprising one-point advantage, 13-12, but over the next 6:36, the Golden Eagles rallied on a 19-0 run, capped off by a Smith shot in the paint, building an 18 point lead, 31-14.

A pair at the line from Smith and a Caudle triple just before the half built a commanding 24-point lead for the Golden Eagles.

The margin continued to balloon through the second half as the Bears were limited to a mere 26.6 percent shooting clip in the second half, allowing John Brown to out-score the visitors 49-27 in the second half.

Both teams committed an astounding number of turnovers, combining for 51 throughout the game.

Quinton Walker scored 13 points and Jay Milton added 12 in the loss for Barclay. Jay Bradley notched 10 points and 5 boards.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Saturday (Nov. 12) against Lyon (Ark.). The game is a rematch between the two teams that faced off last week in Batesville, Ark. Tip is slated for 5 p.m.
