Golden Eagles make quick work of Ecclesia, 110-37

SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. -- Six players scored in double figures and the John Brown University women's basketball team used a game-opening 29-4 run to pull away early, grabbing a 110-37 win over Ecclesia (Ark.) on Monday (Nov. 7) evening inside Bill George Arena.

John Brown head coach Jeff Soderquist was able to play 11 players in the lopsided game, and the Golden Eagle (2-0) defense held the visiting Royals (2-2) to a mere 26.8 percent (15-of-56) mark from the floor and wrestled away a 45-22 rebounding advantage.

Sophomore Baily Cameron paced the hosts for the second time in as many games, pouring in a game-high 19 points and adding nine boards while sophomore Preslea Reece shot 8-of-14 from the floor, scoring 17 points and adding six assists and a block. Freshman Jordan Martinadded 15 points in 17 minutes of action, hitting half of her four triple attempts while senior Kodee Powell hit 3-of-5 from long range to score 11 to accompany five assists. Junior Jana Schammel also added 11 points and five helpers.

The Golden Eagles were nearly unstoppable from behind the arc, knocking down 16-of-29 attempts (55.2 percent) as nine of 11 players hit at least one shot from downtown.

Moving to 2-0 at BGA this season, the hosts scored at least 20 points in each quarter, maxing out with 38 points in the second stanza to build a 67-19 lead at the half. The JBU lead grew to as many as 73 points late in the fourth quarter.

Mikayla Roberts scored 13 points for the Royals (2-2) while Mrya Eatmon added nine points and Raquel Moore grabbed nine boards in the loss for Ecclesia.

The Golden Eagles will now return to NAIA action this weekend, hosting the annual Golden Eagle Classic. JBU will take on Lindenwood at Belleville (Ill.) on Friday (Nov. 11) at 8 p.m. before welcome College of the Ozarks (Mo.) for a 3 p.m. matinee on Saturday (Nov. 12).
