Gonzalez, Simonsen Earn All-Conference Accolades

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (November 7, 2013) -- Junior midfielder Martin Gonzalez has been named to the All-Sooner Athletic Conference first team while sophomore midfielder Eli Simonsen landed a spot on the second team, the conference office announced this afternoon.

Gonzalez, a native of Houston, Texas, had a career season in 2013, notching 10 goals and five assists (25 points), both marks a career high. His two game-winning goals is tied for second on the squad while his 31 shots on goal easily pace the squad.

The nomination marks the second time Gonzalez has earned All-Conference honors. He was named to the second team in 2012.

Simonsen, a native of Klaksvik, Faroe Islands, also pieced together a career year this season, landing five goals and 12 assists (22 points). His 12 assists turned out to be a career high and placed him at No. 8 in the nation in total assists and No. 11 in assists per contest (.670). Simonsen's 22 points was good enough for third place on the squad while his assist total easily paced John Brown.

The award marks the second time Simonsen has been nominated to All-Conference accolades. He was named to the first team in 2012, his freshman campaign.
