Harding Sweeps Past John Brown

SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. (February 28, 2013) - Facing a difficult NCAA II opponent this afternoon, the Golden Eagles fell in a pair of 9-0 matches against the Bison in its first match played in Siloam Springs.

On the ladies' side, The Lady Bison carried a 3-0 lead into singles play as John Brown was only able to capture a lone point in duals play. At the No. 1 spot, the tandem of Kellie Mowrer and Leah Engstrom managed to grab a point in an 8-1 loss while JBU was swept in the remaining matchups.

At the No. 1 singles' spot, Tiffany Prieb fell 6-0, 6-0, before Mowrer lost at the second spot, 8-1, in a pro set. Engstrom tried to avoid the sweep at the fourth slot, but only managed an 8-2 pro set final. Krizana Saucedo turned in the closest contest at the No. 5 spot, slipping by a score of 6-1, 6-2.

On the men's side, the doubles affair was much closer as Alex Baker and Brandon Laney lost at the No. 1 spot, 8-3. The tandem of Cameron McLendon and Luke Pascoe fell narrowly at the second slot, 8-4, before Colton Cheek and Brandon Zoellner slipped at the No. 3 spot, 8-3.

In singles play, McLendon put up a valiant effort at the top spot, falling 6-2, 6-2, before Baker was beaten at the second spot, 6-0, 6-2. Cheek and Zoellner played a pair of pro sets as the Bison had already claimed victory, pushing Harding to a pair of 8-2 scores.

With the losses, both squads fall to 0-4 on the season. The teams will travel to Kansas for a weekend series with Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference squads from March 8-9.
