Holt Wraps Up SAC Defensive Honors
OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. -- After racking up a career-best 12 saves, powering the John Brown University men's soccer team to a 4-1 win over Benedictine (Kan.), junior keeper Adam Holt was named the Sooner Athletic Defensive Player of the Week, the conference offices announced Monday (Sept. 5).
The Golden Eagles (3-0-0) battled with the Ravens in a shooting frenzy, one that saw the visitors out-attempt JBU 22-18. Thirteen of Benedictine's 22 attempts found its way to the goal, by Holt anchored the Golden Eagle defense by blocking aside 12 of 13 chances.
The weekly honor is Holt's third in his career. Twice last season, Holt landed the accolades, including a clinching of an NAIA National Defensive Player of the Week honor after JBU defeated then-No. 3 Oklahoma Wesleyan, 1-0.
Holt has accumulated 14 saves on the season, tied for second among all Sooner Athletic keepers. He is also tied for the conference lead in clean sheets (2).
The Golden Eagles return to action on Thursday (Sept. 8) when JBU takes on Bellevue, Neb. in McPherson, Kan. John Brown will turn around and play Northwestern (Iowa) on Saturday to complete its tournament slate.
