JBU Hosted FBI-Led Cybersecurity Working Group

SILOAM SPRINGS, Arkansas (Jan. 25, 2018) – John Brown University hosted on Tuesday the FBI-led Cybersecurity Working Group, where JBU cybersecurity faculty convened with retail, manufacturing, banking, health and education professionals to discuss current topics in cybersecurity. Key topics included network and data access management, vulnerabilities in Spectre and Meltdown’s processing chips and new threats caused by the increased internet access to personal, home and office devices.

“The working group is advantageous, as participants share needs, ideas and solutions for the security of an ever-increasing world of internet communication,” Dr. Larry Bland, who had a key role in launching JBU’s graduate program in Cybersecurity and attended the meeting, said. “This is a rapidly expanding industrial niche where employment opportunities exceed the available people that have the skills to work in this world. This creates a need for strong personnel development by companies and educational training through JBU’s master’s degree in cybersecurity.”

Cybersecurity Working Group meets quarterly to review evolving threats and share information that helps protect data. Bland and other JBU cybersecurity faculty plan to consistently attend these meetings to engage with current topics and network with local professionals to train future cybersecurity professionals to combat these threats.
