JBU Hosts Annual Family Weekend

SILOAM SPRINGS, ARK. (Feb. 16, 2016) – John Brown University will host its annual Family Weekend Feb. 19-20, with weekend events including a talent & variety show, two performances of “David Copperfield” and several athletic events. JBU expects over 700 parents and family members to attend.

On Feb. 19, President Chip Pollard will open the weekend with a chapel service at 10 a.m. in the Cathedral of the Ozarks. Students from the Bible department will present their paper symposia in the Soderquist Board Room at 4 p.m. and families are invited to attend a few of JBU’s most popular classes throughout the day.

Students will perform an adaptation of Charles Dickens’ novel, “David Copperfield,” on Friday at 7 p.m. and on Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Berry Performing Arts Center with a Meet the Cast Reception immediately following the Friday performance.

On Saturday, parents are invited to attend an open house at the home of JBU President Chip and his wife Carey Pollard from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m., and a special family brunch will be served in the Kresge Dining Hall from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Saturday’s schedule also holds myriad athletic events with a women’s rugby match against the Tulsa Women’s Rugby Club at 9 a.m. and a men’s rugby match against the NWA Gryphons at 11 a.m. The women’s and men’s ultimate Frisbee teams will also scrimmage at 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. respectively, and the JBU Golden Eagle basketball teams will play the Bacone College Warriors at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. in the Bill George Arena.

The weekend will conclude with two performances of the annual Student Talent & Variety Shows at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. in the Cathedral of the Ozarks. Winners will be announced after the 8 p.m. show with a reception immediately following in the Walker Student Center.
