JBU Hosts ‘The Arties’ Student Awards
SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. (March 11, 2014) - The John Brown University Visual Arts Department will host the “Arties” on March 14 at 7 p.m. in the Barry Performing Arts Center.
The Arties is JBU’s annual Oscar-style awards show that celebrates student excellence in the arts with awards distributed by the Visual Arts Department, Music and Theatre Department, Communication Department and guest professional artists.
The nominees are:
Graphic Designer of the Year: Morgan Ankrom, Nathan Burns, Nick Eshnaur and Hannah Garrett.
Photographer of the Year: Kendra Ammons, JP Garcia, Kate Purdy and Stephanie Willis.
Illustrator of the Year: Kenny Crane, Chloe Fennell, Shannon Henderson and Hannah Newsom.
Fine Artist of the Year: Michelle Merwin, Joshua Ray and Patrick Symons.
Digital Illustrator of the Year: Gabrielle Bromling, Zack Brown, Sean Essary and Thomas Mulcahy.
Filmmaker of the Year: Stephen Greathouse, Marcel Guadron, Angela Morse and John Owen.
Rookie of the Year: Michael Kelley, Jocie Morgan and Becky Ramirez.
This year’s Arties ceremony theme is “Classy Thrift Store,” demonstrated through event décor and the participants’ dress. JBU “paparazzi” will photograph attendees on the red carpet as they enter the building. Hosted by the Visual Art Foundry, the event is free and open to the public.
