JBU Presents 'The Hutcheson Collection: From the Eye of an Artist'

SILOAM SPRINGS, ARK. (Oct. 19, 2016) – John Brown University’s Visual Arts Department presents “The Hutcheson Collection: From the Eye of an Artist,” which represents Bill and Dede Hutcheson’s personal collection of paintings from artists around the world. Exhibited for the very first time, the collection includes 47 paintings by notable artists Richard Schmid, John Asaro, Kevin McPherson, Raymond Kinstler, Dan McCaw, Burton Silverman, Charles Sovek, Camille Przewodek and Matt Smith.

Dede, an artist in her own right, has studied with most of the artists featured in the exhibit. Through her love for oil painting, in particular en plein air, Dede has developed a passion for color and expressive brushstroke. These pieces showcase her keen aesthetic judgment and her interest in figurative artwork.

“This is a unique opportunity to view a collection of paintings collected by one individual,” Charles Peer, JBU gallery director said. “Although there is a great variety in style, subject and media, her personal perspective adds a wonderful unity to the exhibit. Each painting is accompanied with a statement on how she came to own the piece and/or what she finds particularly wonderful about the work.”

"The Hutcheson Collection: From the Eye of an Artist” will be on display in JBU’s main gallery Windgate Visual Arts West until Nov. 4.

“It is a joy to be able to host artwork to inspire our students to find their own voice in the artwork that they feel connected to,” Peer said. “It is a collection that each member of the community will find beautiful and enriching.”
