JBU Presents Critically Acclaimed Play ‘Pygmalion’
SILOAM SPRINGS, Arkansas (Sept. 20, 2017) – John Brown University presents “Pygmalion,” the original play by George Bernard Shaw, Sept. 29 - 30 and Oct. 6 - 7 in the Berry Performing Arts Center.
“Pygmalion,” a play that has been delighting audiences since 1914, follows the humorous story of linguist Henry Higgins who transforms Eliza Doolittle, a heavy-accented flower girl, into a sophisticated lady in high-class society. Shaw’s play was adapted into the 1956 musical “My Fair Lady,” which catapulted ingénue star Julie Andrews to fame and became highly acclaimed on Broadway and in London. It was then made into the 1964 Academy Award winning film that starred Audrey Hepburn and Rex Harrison.
“George Shaw’s ‘Pygmalion’ is a witty and entertaining comedy that has become beloved by audiences worldwide,” Jan Lauderdale, director, said. “The play is also Shaw’s polemic essay on the British class system at the time and has a potent message about equality. We would love for the community to come out and enjoy the show!”
Performances are Sept. 29, Sept. 30 and Oct. 6 at 7:30 p.m. and Oct. 7 at 1 p.m. Tickets are $16 for adults, $14 for senior adults, JBU alumni, and JBU faculty and staff, $7 for non-JBU students and $3 for JBU students.
