JBU Presents Harpsichordist John Paul
Siloam Springs, ARK. (Oct. 22, 2015) – The John Brown University Artist Series presents renowned harpsichordist, John Paul, in a recital at the Jones Recital Hall in the Cathedral of the Ozarks on Thursday, Oct. 29 at 7:30 p.m. Paul’s program will include music by Handel, Dowland, Haydn, Scarlatti and Rameau.
Paul was self-taught until 18 when he auditioned and was accepted to the Royal Academy of Music in London. There, Paul studied under acclaimed musicians like Alan Richardson, Harold Craxton, C. H. Trevor and Thurston Dart. He received performance diplomas from the Royal Academy of Music and an honors degree from the University of London before moving to Jackson, Miss. to become the organist and choirmaster of St. Andrew's Episcopal Cathedral. He recently celebrated his 50th anniversary in this position.
Paul has released two solo records — in 2002 and 2005 — performing the works of Herbert Howells and Jacques Du Phly respectively. In 2002, the Mississippi Arts Commission presented him with the Governor’s Award for Excellence in the Arts.
“Dr. Paul is a master with a wide repertoire,” said Jan Lauderdale, Artist Series events coordinator. “We are so pleased to provide such a unique musical opportunity to our community.”
Tickets are available at the door. General admission is $10 for adults, $5 for students and free for JBU Students.
