JBU Teams with Charmin for Toilet Paper Game Benefit
SILOAM SPRINGS, ARK. (Oct. 28 2015) – John Brown University will kick off the men’s home basketball season on Saturday, Oct. 31 at 7 p.m. at the 35th Annual Toilet Paper Game presented by Charmin. This year, JBU and Charmin have collaborated to provide the Manna Center, a local food pantry, with non-perishable food items and 2,000 rolls of toilet paper.
JBU started the canned food drive last year, collecting nearly 1,400 cans for the Manna Center, in response to the Sooner Athletic Conference’s “The SAC Gives Back” initiative. This year, spectators will bring a nonperishable food item to the game in exchange for a roll of Charmin toilet paper to toss after the first home field goal.
“Food pantries tend to get slammed during the holiday season. The Toilet Paper Game is timed perfectly to anticipate that shortage and meet the need before it arises,” said Robyn Daugherty, JBU athletic director. “JBU fans have really gotten behind this new food drive initiative and with Charmin coming on board, we’re excited to see what kind of contribution we can make to our community.”
In total, Charmin has donated 4,000 rolls of toilet paper for the event: 2,000 for “the toss” and 2,000 to the Manna Center. JBU will present the food items and the toilet paper to the Manna Center before the game.
The Toilet Paper Game, which began in the early 1980s, has been listed as a top fan tradition in college basketball by Sports Weekly and was described as the “best technical foul in all of sports” by USA Today. The game has also been featured by ESPN “Sports Center” and “Around the Horn.”
The JBU Golden Eagles will face Barclay College (Kan.) in the Toilet Paper Game at the Bill George Arena in Siloam Springs.
