JBU Hosts Annual Family Weekend

Siloam Springs, Ark. (Feb. 16, 2015) - John Brown University will host its annual Family Weekend on Feb. 20 and 21. The weekend’s events will include the Student Talent & Variety Show, a student performance of “Pride and Prejudice” and several athletic events. JBU expects 600-800 parents to attend.

President Chip Pollard will open the weekend with a chapel service at 10 a.m. on Friday. Parents and students are also invited to attend a few of JBU’s most popular classes during the day.

Students from the Bible department will share their paper symposia in the Soderquist Board Room at 4 p.m. on Friday.

“Family Weekend is the best opportunity to see how JBU functions on a day-to-day basis,” said Jerry Rollene, director of alumni and parent relations.

The University Drama Department will present an adaptation of Jane Austen’s novel “Pride and Prejudice” on Friday at 7 p.m. and on Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Berry Performing Arts Center. Tickets are available at www.jbu.edu/tickets or by calling 479-524-7382. There will be a “Meet the Cast” reception after the Friday night showing.

A special family brunch will be offered Saturday in the Kresge Dining Hall from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Families may view JBU student art in the galleries in the Windgate Visual Arts East & West buildings between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

JBU’s men’s ultimate frisbee teams will scrimmage at 10:30 a.m. Saturday morning, and the JBU rugby team will play at 11 a.m. Sports will resume at 1 p.m. with the women’s basketball game, followed by a men’s basketball game at 3 p.m in the Bill George Arena.  

The weekend will conclude Saturday night with the Student Talent & Variety Show in the Cathedral of the Ozarks. Identical performances will take place at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m., with winners announced after the 8 p.m. show. Tickets are $2 each at the door.
