JBU’s Science Organization Hosts Geneticist Dr. John Sanford
SILOAM SPRINGS, Arkansas (Nov. 9, 2016) – John Brown University’s student organization Faith United with Science and Engineering will host Geneticist Dr. John Sanford to lecture Wednesday Nov. 16 at 5:30 p.m. in Simmons Great Hall A. Sanford’s lecture, followed by a question and answer session, will present arguments for how modern genetic science supports particular Biblical worldviews.
Sanford, an associate professor at Cornell University, has conducted genetic research for over 30 years. Published in over 100 scientific publications and owning over 30 patents, Sanford invented the biolistic process or “gene gun” and leads development of the computer software “Mendel's Accountant,” an accurate numerical simulation of evolutionary population genetics. A convert to Christianity from atheism, Sanford discusses genetic mutations and the limitations of natural selection in his book “Genetic Entropy and the Mystery of the Genome.”
“The FUSE leadership is pleased to host Dr. Sanford at this free event,” Dr. Greg Varner, assistant professor of mathematics and FUSE’s faculty sponsor, said. “We hope that students and the community take advantage of this chance to dialogue with a distinguished professor and further the discussion on the integration of faith and science.”
