John Brown Opens Season with Saturday Tri-Match

SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. (August 24, 2013) -- The Golden Eagles open the 2013 campaign at Bill George Arena on Saturday afternoon, as it hosts Lyon (Ark.) and Benedictine (Kan.) to a tri-match, set to kick-off at 3:00 p.m.

After losing seniors Aubrey Adams and Erin Didier at the conclusion of 2012, John Brown welcomed three new additions to the roster for this season in freshmen Shayna Daniels and Molli Pugh while gaining Tiffany Hunnicutt as a transfer from NCAA I Lamar (Texas). Daniels will work with returning senior Kailey Bain at the setter position while Hunnicutt and Pugh will spend time at the outside hitter position.

The Golden Eagles finished its exhibition slate at 1-1, falling to NCAA II Arkansas at Fort Smith after besting NCAA II East Central (Okla.) on the campus of Oklahoma Baptist.

"These matches serve as a great starting point for the season," said head coach Stacie Johnson. "We're still deciding lineups, so the ladies could have looks at multiple positions. Hopefully this can give us a better idea of everyone's in-game strengths as we move into the pre-conference tournament part of our schedule."

Benedictine enters the tri-match after a 7-23 mark in 2012, bringing in freshmen Sarah Gerken, Ariana Romp and Megan Ruzicka to bolster the lineup. Lyon enters 2013 after a 14-27 finish in 2012 and added Stephanie Jones, Samantha Scalf and Katarina Frickleton to its lineup for this season.

John Brown finished 2012 with a perfect 2-0 combined record against the Ravens and the Scots, handling Benedictine, 3-1, at the Baker (Kan.) tournament on Sept. 7 before landing a quick 3-0 victory over Lyon at Bill George Arena on Oct. 27.

The Golden Eagles will take on Benedictine at 3:00 p.m. before facing Lyon at 7:00 p.m.. The Scots and the Ravens will play a match in between, slated for 5:00 p.m. Video and stats will be available as both John Brown matches can be followed live on JBUathletics.com.
