John Brown Student-Athletes Post 3.10 GPA in Fall Semester

SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. (January 9, 2015) -- John Brown University Director of Athletics Robyn Daugherty announced today (Jan. 9) that Golden Eagles student-athletes posted a 3.10 grade-point average for the Fall 2014 semester and that seven of 11 programs earned GPAs over the 3.00 mark.

“I am very proud of our student-athletes and their success in the classroom this past fall,” Daugherty said. “Academics at JBU are rigorous and our student-athletes have to work extremely hard in the classroom, balancing practice and competition with classes and outside class work. Our coaches are committed to recruiting students who want to excel on the court and in the classroom.”

Women’s cross country posted the top team GPA of any team and increased it by a 0.21 mark, in comparison to last fall. Women’s tennis narrowly edged volleyball for the second-best GPA while women’s soccer finished fourth, but posted the greatest number of individual with GPA’s over a 3.0 (14). Men’s soccer had the second-most with 10.

Coming in fifth and tops among all men’s programs was cross country. The men’s runners boasted seven of 13 student-athletes with over a 3.0 GPA.

Overall, 55 percent of all fall sport student-athletes claimed over a 3.0 GPA while only 5% fell below a 2.0 mark. Additionally, four programs notched a 3.3 GPA or better.
