John Brown University Named a ‘2015 Great College to Work For’

SILOAM SPRINGS, ARK. (July 20, 2015) – John Brown University is one of the best colleges in the nation to work for, according to a new report by The Chronicle of Higher Education, a leading source of news for higher education institutions.

Nationally, only 86 colleges received “Great College to Work For” recognition for specific best practices and policies related to professional development, compensation and benefits, job satisfaction, work environment and life balance.

“The Chronicle’s Great Colleges to Work For program shows how the colleges and universities on the list are getting it right,” said Liz McMillen, editor for The Chronicle of Higher Education. “These institutions provide innovative educational experiences while also offering their employees outstanding workplace experiences. The selection process is rigorous and being named to the list is a tremendous accomplishment.”

JBU won honors in nine out of 12 categories this year, making JBU one of only 42 institutions named a 2015 Honor Roll Institution:

* Collaborative Governance

* Compensation & Benefits

* Confidence in Senior Leadership

* Facilities, Workspace & Security

* Job Satisfaction

* Professional/Career Development Programs

* Respect and Appreciation

* Supervisor/Department Chair Relationship

* Work/Life Balance

“JBU is a great place to work because it attracts great people who are committed to educating students to honor God and serve others,” said JBU President Dr. Chip Pollard. “I am grateful for this recognition by The Chronicle of Higher Education, but I am even more thankful for the day-to-day gift of working with the good people of JBU.”

The survey results are based on a two-part assessment process: an institutional audit that captured demographics and workplace policies from each institution, and a survey distributed to faculty, administrators and professional support staff. The employee feedback was the primary factor in deciding whether an institution received recognition.

To administer the survey and analyze the results, The Chronicle worked with ModernThink LLC, a strategic human capital consulting firm that has conducted numerous “Best Places to Work” programs, surveying hundreds of thousands of employees nationwide.

Great Colleges to Work For is one of the largest and most respected workplace-recognition programs in the country. Now in its eighth year, it recognizes the colleges that get top ratings from their employees on workforce practices and policies.
