Men’s basketball gets revenge, slips past Lyon
SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. -- The John Brown University men's basketball team survived a solid second-half performance from former Siloam Springs High School standout Kyle Snavely, and the Golden Eagles held on to defeat Lyon (Ark.), 65-57, on Saturday (Nov. 12) inside Bill George Arena.
Snavely, an All-State center for the Panthers, came off the bench and scored a career-high 19 points, all coming in the second half. JBU (3-2) responded with a trio of double-digit scorers, propelling John Brown to a second-straight victory.
Senior Ricky Roberts led the Golden Eagles with 14 points on 8-of-11 shooting from the stripe, while senior Zach English went a perfect 3-of-3 from behind the arc to score 13 and sophomore Benjamin Smith chipped in with 12 points and seven rebounds.
The win helped JBU avenge an earlier 70-65 loss at Lyon in Batesville, Ark. on Nov. 3 in the process.
The Golden Eagles shot 50 percent from the field (10-of-20) to build a 29-23 halftime lead and outscored the Scots 36-34 in the second half. A 13-of-19 conversion rate from the charity stripe in the second half, combined with committing a season-low 13 turnovers, sealed the win for the hosts, which didn't allow the Scots (2-2) to get within five points over the final 20 minutes of play.
Snavely hit 6-of-9 from the field and 7-of-9 from the free throw line and added four rebounds for Lyon, which lost the battle on the glass, 30-24.
The Golden Eagles return to action at 7 p.m. Tuesday against Ozark Christian (Mo.).
