No. 1 Oklahoma City Runs Past John Brown, 98-48

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (February 9, 2013) - Despite 10-point efforts from junior guard Sierra Shipley and sophomore forward Morgan Ankrom, the top-ranked Stars (21-2, 13-0 SAC) used a 50.7 percent shooting effort and 12 triples to score a 98-48 victory over the Golden Eagles (9-15, 4-8 SAC), Saturday afternoon at Abe Lemons Arena.

Shipley was able to convert two triples en route to her double-digit effort while Ankrom managed a trey of her own in addition to going 5-of-6 from the free throw line in the losing effort.

Ankrom also led the charge on the boards, pulling down a team-high seven rebounds as each squad managed to control 34 caroms in the contest. Shipley finished the game with six boards while Kortni Barenberg added five.

John Brown finished the game with a respectable 35.9 shooting percentage on the afternoon, but couldn't keep up with the offensive firepower of Oklahoma City, as the Stars shot 50.7 percent, converting just over half of its 71 attempted shots. OCU also managed 12 three-pointers in the 50-point victory while five Golden Eagles earned a basket from beyond the arc. In her first game since the first semester, freshman Hunter Glouse contributed four points for John Brown, including one bucket from behind the arc.

While earning 10 assists on 14 total field goals, JBU received two helpers apiece from Lauren Rogers, Anna Parish and Jordyn Williams.

Only down 47-27 after the intermission, the Stars outscored John Brown 51-21 in the second half, powered by 8-of-20 shooting from three-point range. The Golden Eagles managed four of its own, on 10 attempts, but only managed three baskets from two-point range over the final 20 minutes.

Oklahoma City is riding a current 20-game winning streak.

The Golden Eagles will now return home to Siloam Springs and turn its attention to Wayland Baptist on Thursday, Feb. 14. Back on Jan. 26, John Brown notched a 79-69 victory in Plainview over the Flying Queens, its last victory in the previous four games. Tip-off is set for 6:00 p.m.
