Omondi's Two Goals Land Him Weekly Offensive Honors

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. -- After dishing out a career-best three assists in John Brown University's first win of the season on Aug. 20, sophomore striker Kelvin Omondi added a pair of goals in JBU's 3-0 win over Southwest Baptist (Mo.), landing him his first career Sooner Athletic Offensive Player of the Week honors, the conference offices announced Monday (Aug. 29).

Omondi, who leads the team or shares the lead in goals (2), assists (5), points (14) and shots (14), scored a pair of first-half goals against the Bearcats on Friday (Aug. 26) in front of a home sellout crowd at Alumni Field.

Omondi got the scoring going in the 30th minute when the striker cleaned up a Conner Haney blast from the right flank. Just yards away from the goal line, Omondi and flock of players found a loose ball, but Omondi finally tallied his first of the season, breaking JBU's 232-minute goalless drought in the First Game Under the Lights series.

Five minutes later, Omondi was hit with a shot just inside the box, but took the loose ball a broke between a pair of SBU defenders, and slipped a shot past SBU keeper Lajos Zadravecz for a 2-0 lead.

Omondi leads the nation in assists and is No. 4 in shots per game (7.00). He also is No. 7 nationwide in total points and shots on goal per game (4.50).

The Golden Eagles return to action on Saturday (Sept. 3) when John Brown hosts Benedictine (Kan.) at 6 p.m.
