Our Heads, Our Hearts, Our Hands Faculty Exhibit Opens at JBU
SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. (August 30, 2013) - Art by the eight faculty members of the John Brown University Visual Arts Department will be on display in the upcoming exhibit entitled “Our Heads, Our Hearts, Our Hands” in the Windgate Visual Arts West Gallery. The show will open with a reception on Tuesday evening, Sept. 3 from 6-7:30 p.m. The reception and the exhibit are free and open to the public.
“The exhibit displays the amazing breadth of creativity and depth of talent among the members of our faculty,” said Charles Peer, gallery director and faculty member. “We purposefully schedule a faculty exhibit every three years so our students and community can see that all of us continue to work in our chosen artistic media, as well as teach.”
- Dave Andrus, professor of visual arts, will be displaying his new landscape paintings.
- Joel Armstrong, associate professor of visual arts, will wire drawings, a hand-made chandelier and paintings using rust and gold leaf, as well as two assemblage altarpieces.
- Todd Goehner, associate professor of visual arts, will display multi-color screen printed broadsides, a fine art piece presented in a poster format featuring the text by his grandfather, poet Benjamin F. Culver.
- Neal Holland, associate professor of visual arts, will showcase photography in both digital prints and traditional salt prints of the Irish seaside and ruins of Early Christian sites taken during his travels this summer.
- Bob Martin, associate professor of visual arts, will exhibit new encaustic/oil paintings and several 3-color screenprint pieces, one of which recently won the Best of Division in Printmaking at the 92st Annual Indian Art Market in Santa Fe, N.M.
- Charles Peer, professor of visual arts, will exhibit eight new paintings that explore his interest in color rich surfaces and his interest in a “mark making” style of painting.
- Peter Pohle, associate professor of visual arts, will showcase ten plein-air paintings, as well as a computer generated steampunk 3D rendering that will appear in the upcoming issue of Expose 11 magazine.
- Steve Snediker, assistant professor of visual arts, will premier his new experimental film titled “Levi: A Day–A Lifetime”.
The exhibit will be on display through Sept 27. The gallery is open Monday through Friday 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. and Sunday 2 p.m.-4 p.m., or by special arrangement. For further information, contact the JBU Department of Visual Arts at 479-238-8561.
