Program records fall in lopsided win at Bacone
MUSKOGEE, Okla. -- The single-game program record book was basically rewritten as sophomore Aspen Robinson netted three goals and dished out two assists while senior Sara Lachance added two tallies and a trio of helpers to lead the No. 24 John Brown University women's soccer team to a 15-0 win at Bacone (Okla.) at the Love-Hatbox Sports Complex on Saturday (Oct. 1) afternoon.
Twelve different players found the scoresheet for the Golden Eagles (8-1-1, 2-0-0 SAC). After carrying a 5-0 lead into the half, John Brown doubled its total in the second half, placing a 10-spot on the board. JBU has now won four straight.
The Golden Eagles fired 50 shots towards the Warrior (1-6-0, 0-2-0 SAC) goal, a mark that finished fourth-most in the single-game record book. As a team, JBU notched 15 goals, 19 assists and 49 total points, all three of which set new single-game program marks.
Robinson's hattrick was the 11th recorded in program history, including her fourth game-winner of the season. Her seventh, eighth and ninth goals of the season accompanied her third and fourth assists of the 2016 campaign. Robinson's eight total points tied a single-game program record, last set in 2008 by Rachel Gerdin.
Lachance netted her first points of the season, striking for seven points on eight shot attempts.
A pair of freshman scored their first goals of the season when Allie McCracken and Hannah Sweaney put up goals in the 34th and 59th minutes, respectively.
Junior Samantha Weber's four assists tied the single-game assist record, last set by Camille Malkiewicz in 2010. Weber also added a goal in the 40th minute to complete the six-point outing.
Sophomore Jastin Redman added six points on two goals and two assists while sophomore Anne Metz added a pair of goals. Sophomore Anna Brown tallied her first goal of the season as sophomore Melody Hagen contributed a goal and an assist. Freshmen Katherine Haar and Kathryn Huff each dished out an assist in the lopsided win.
Senior Kristen Morency stopped the lone shot sent her way to wrap up her sixth shutout of the season. Stacy Buckner racked up 14 saves on the 29 shots that JBU sent on goal.
On Sept. 27, Oklahoma City handed the Warriors a 14-0 defeat. The second tiebreaker when seeding for the Sooner Athletic tournament is goal differential, forcing the Golden Eagles to keep pace with other conference opponents.
JBU and the Stars will tangle on Tuesday (Oct. 4) at Alumni Field. The 5 p.m. match will be a rematch of last year's SAC tournament semifinals, which the Golden Eagles won, 1-0, at Stars Field.
