ROBINSON, LACHANCE SELECTED TO ALL-AMERICA HONORABLE MENTION TEAM
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- For their efforts in helping the John Brown University women's soccer team to a program record-season, sophomore Aspen Robinson and senior Sara Lachance have been named NAIA All-America honorable mentions, the national office announced Tuesday (Dec. 6).
Robinson's breakout campaign boasted honors including Sooner Athletic Most Valuable Player and All-Sooner Athletic first team, all while claiming the SAC scoring title with 10 goals and six assists (26 points) in just nine contests. Robinson racked up three or points in a conference match in five of the nine games played, including a record-tying three goals and two assists (8 points) in JBU's 15-0 win over Bacone (Okla.) on Oct. 1.
Tallying six game-winners on the season, good enough for 10th-most in the nation, Robinson finished the year with 18 goals and nine assists (45 points), which is a new single-season program record.
"I was excited to hear that both Aspen and Sara were recognized for their efforts this season," admitted head coach Kathleen Paulsen, 2016 SAC Coach of the Year. "They both had fantastic seasons and finished well. These awards are well-deserved as they individually put together a complete season that resulted in big moments in big games."
Lachance's honorable mention selection solidified a four-year career that included a trio of All-Conference first team honors and one second-team honor. This year, Lachance finished the season with 10 goals in her last 11 outings to accompany four assists (24 points), including her second-career hattrick in John Brown's 7-0 win over Wayland Baptist (Texas) in the quarterfinals of the Sooner Athletic tournament.
Totaling 71 career points, Lachance ends her career solidified in fifth place in the program's all-time scoring list. Her 27 career goals also has her sixth in all-time strikes. Lachance's 17 assists is also fourth all-time in a single career.
The Golden Eagles finished the season at 18-2-1 setting single-season program records in wins (18), fewest losses (2), win percentage (.881 percent), points (221), goals (77), assists (67), shutouts (13) and goals-against average (.520 percent) while making its fourth all-time appearance in the NAIA Women's Soccer National Championships, the second time in the past four seasons.
