Rakestraw, Josephs Headline All-SAC Honors

OKLAHOMA CITY (February 26, 2013) - After finishing the 2012-13 regular season with a program-best 25 wins, five Golden Eagles have been nominated to the Sooner Athletic Conference All-Conference squads, led by senior guard Coleson Rakestraw and freshman guard Kofi Josehps.

Rakestraw, a native of Siloam Springs, Ark., earned first-team accolades after capping off his senior campaign with 68 three-pointers over the course of the season while shooting an efficient 44.2 percent from beyond the arc, good enough for No. 14 in the nation. A two-time Capital One/CoSIDA first team Academic All-American®, Rakestraw was name to the Honorable Mention list last season. Rakestraw, averaging 11.4 points per game, was also added to the Academic All-Conference list.

Josephs, a native of Birmingham, England, was named the Freshman of the Year for his efforts this season. Josephs led the Golden Eagles in total three-pointers (70), while knocking down 48 triples during SAC play, good enough for second overall in the league. He also finished second in scoring among SAC freshman, notching 12.63 points per game during league action. Josephs ranks No. 21 in the nation in total three-pointers and No. 25 in three-point field goal percentage (41.9 percent). Josephs was the only SAC Player of the Week recipient that John Brown featured this season, as he scored an average of 16 points and nabbed an average of five rebounds, lifting John Brown to victories against then-No. 5 Oklahoma Baptist and Mid-American Christian during Jan. 14-20.

Senior guard Abel Galliguez followed up his Honorable Mention nomination last year by landing a spot on the All-SAC second team. The Sugar Land, Texas, native has been the catalyst of the Golden Eagle offense all season and completes the regular season with a team-high 119 assists, which ranks him No. 25 in the nation. Galliguez also takes care of the ball, ranked No. 12 in the country in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.43). Galliguez joined Rakestaw on the Captial One/CoSIDA Academic All-District® team this season, his second-consecutive nomination to the prestigious list. He also joins Rakestraw on the Academic All-Conference list.

John Brown featured two more members on the All-SAC teams as senior guard E.J. McWoods and sophomore forward Max Hopfgartner were both voted to the Honorable Mention team.

McWoods, a native of DeSoto, Texas, was the epitome of clutch for the Golden Eagles this season. His .880 percent free throw shooting during the 2012-13 campaign ranks second in the country. On the cusp of its first regular season championship in program history, McWoods scored a career-high 25 points, including a 13-of-13 effort from the free throw line, against Lubbock Christian on Feb. 16. McWoods averages 8.3 points per game this season.

In the midst of a career year, Hopfgartner, a native of Salzburg, Austria, has turned in a season quite different than his freshman campaign. Last year Hopfgartner averaged 4.3 points and 3.4 rebounds per game. This year, his 10.5 points per game is good enough for second on the squad while his 6.3 rebounds a night paces the Golden Eagle rebounding effort. Hopfgartner scored a career-high 24 points against Science and Arts on Jan. 31 and has notched a team-high five double-doubles.
