Ranked Oklahoma Baptist Squads Hand John Brown Pair of Defeats

SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. (March 13, 2013) - In its first and only conference matches of the season in Siloam Springs, the No. 14 ranked Lady Bison and the No. 16 ranked Bison handed the Golden Eagles a pair of 9-0 defeats.

With the losses the ladies move to 1-6 on the season while the men drop to 0-7.

The ladies fell into a quick 3-0 hole as the Lady Bison allowed JBU to steal only six games during doubles play. The tandem of Katie Bellinger and Michelle Caneday earned four of those points in an 8-4 loss at the third spot. Tiffany Prieb and Krizana Saucedo teamed up to capture two points, but ultimately fell, 8-2, at the second spot.

Singles play didn't prove much better for the Golden Eagles as the Lady Bison swept four of six first sets, as only Kellie Mowrer and Bellinger were able to win a pair of sets apiece, at the third and sixth slots, respectively.

Saucedo had the most remarkable turnaround in the second sets as she put up four games, narrowly avoiding an upset. Mowrer, Prieb and Saucedo each nabbed a game in their second sets.

On the men's side, the Golden Eagles again faced a 3-0 deficit as the Bison took the first two doubles in convincing manner, 8-0 and 8-1. At the third spot, however, the team of Blake Zoellner and Colton Cheek pushed OBU's Koly Byerly and Jacob Allbritton to the limit, forcing a 9-7 score.

In singles play, Cheek nabbed the most successful first set, falling only 6-3 at the sixth slot while Alex Baker and Brandon Laney were each able to grab a game in the first set at the second and third slots, respectively. JBU began to fade in the second sets, unfortunately, as Baker was the only men's player able to notch a point in the second round of sets.

The ladies will have little time to recover as they travel to face Arkansas Tech on Thursday, March 14, in Russellville, Ark., while the men won't return to the court until Tuesday, March 26, when they host NCAA I Oral Roberts (Okla.).
