Redman, Robinson Direct Offense, John Brown Secures 4-1 Victory

SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. (September 18, 2015) -- Freshmen Aspen Robinson and Jastin Redman each recorded a pair of assists while the John Brown women’s soccer team (3-4-0) tripled Texas A&M – Texarkana in shots (30-9) en route to a 4-1 victory on Friday (Sept. 18) night at Alumni Field.

Four players notched their second goal of the season, sending JBU to its first winning streak of 2015.

Junior Sara Lachance finished a cross from Robinson in the 11th minute on the left flank just inside the box. Lachance ripped a shot to the far right corner, handing the hosts a 1-0 advantage.

In the 25th minute, JBU nearly went up 2-0 when senior Alex Fahr one-touched a strike from the top of the box that sailed just below the crossbar, catching enough iron to fall straight down and land on the goal line, denying the defender her first goal of the season.

Sixteen minutes later, the Golden Eagles received the game-winning strike, courtesy of freshman Anna Brown. An errant deflection dropped to the feet of Brown in the midfield, who had a one-on-one opportunity in front of her. Brown easily beat her defender and slid a shot to the bottom right corner past TAMUT keeper Vanessa Sanchez, doubling John Brown’s lead to 2-0.

The second half featured a John Brown team with the vast majority of possession. The Golden Eagles earned two goals in a 2:21 span as freshman Melody Hagen capped off a beautiful individual effort from Redman that translated into an excellent team play. Redman carried the ball down the right flank, besting her defender in the corner. After emerging from the corner kick flag and straddling the goal line towards the net, Redman centered a pass to Robinson eight yards out, who turned and laid a short pass for an oncoming Hagen. With speed, Hagen blasted to the upper left corner JBU’s insurance goal and a 3-0 lead in the 53rd minute.

The scoring came to a close in the 55th minute when Samantha Weber drilled an attempt from 13 yards out past Sanchez. A failed TAMUT clear out of the box landed at Redman’s feet, who sent a short pass to Weber, who knocked home the closing strike by the hosts.

Despite making five saves on the night, junior Hannah Poor’s shutout bid was ruined in the 72nd minute when Samantha Sharpnack-Isom banged home a rebound three yards away after Poor was unable to hang onto Emilee Bybee’s long free kick into the box. Sharpnack-Isom sent a shot just inside the right post, placing the visitors down by three, 4-1.

Texarkana (2-4-0) wouldn’t be able to post another scoring chance as Poor increased her record to 3-3-0 on the season. Sanchez, who made 11 saves in the loss, drops to 0-3-0 in 2015.

Redman led all players with seven shots, two on goal, while Lachance notched five, three on target, and Robinson added four in the victory. Sharpnack-Isom led the visitors with four attempts towards Poor, including two on goal.

With a two-game winning streak, the Golden Eagles will return to action on Tuesday (Sept. 22) in Bartlesville, Okla., when JBU faces Oklahoma Wesleyan in a 5:30 p.m. showdown.
