Seasoned Threads: Paintings by Erin Shaw at JBU Art Gallery
SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. (November 6, 2014) - Season Threads: a series of painting by Oklahoma City artist Erin Shaw will be on exhibit in the JBU Windgate Visual Arts West Gallery through Dec. 16.
As an American Indian (Chickasaw-Choctaw) artist, Shaw describes herself as a visual storyteller. “My work as an artist rests in the simple assertion that we are collectors of stories and the stories we collect shape the people we are.”
Being such a young and successful artist will inspire and challenge the students at JBU, said Charles Peer, Gallery Director for the university. He finds her show to be visually exciting, with “richly colored images” that seem to “pull you into the story and entice you to try to unravel the meaning.” Bob Martin, professor of Visual Arts at JBU appreciates that Shaw’s artwork utilizes symbolism in weaving together stories that “seem to lie just below the surface.”
The gallery is open Monday through Friday 8 a.m.- 4p.m. and Sunday 2 p.m.- 4 p.m. or by special arrangement. It will be closed Wednesday, Nov. 26- Sunday, Nov. 30 for the Thanksgiving holiday.
